James Owen Mathews

James lives in two worlds. He is an executive with an executive research and consulting firm that helps leaders build and sustain healthy, high performing organizations. He is also a composer and musician who creates music to help people get in touch with their inner world of self-reflection, spirit, and higher purpose.

James’ practice of Buddhism knits these two worlds together. He sees the potential in people and organizations to become more human, compassionate, and clear as the way to greater results and fulfillment. And he sees meditation and mindfulness as the way to create and sustain a joyful life for oneself and others.

His music is composed to create that “inner quiet space” for one to reflect, feel the pain and joy of living, and create a deeply personal relationship with oneself and the world. Played quietly in those moments, it suspends time and attachment, thus freeing the mind and heart to reflect and unite in a rich place of quiet acceptance — and love.

James debuted his musical career in 1988 at Carnegie Recital Hall in New York City and lives in Washington DC.
